Explaining and understanding the nature of good leadership is probably easier than practicing it. Good leadership requires deep human qualities, beyond conventional notions of authority.
In the modern age good leaders are the enabling force, helping people and organizations to perform and develop. The traditional concept of a leader being the directing chief at the top of a hierarchy is nowadays a very incomplete appreciation of what true leadership must be.
With attendees from both sister companies INAYA and UFA Assurances, QMS Engineers’ facilitator conducted a full day workshop on leadership skills, on June 20th, with the aim of training both organizations’ future leaders to improving the skills and capabilities of current supervisors and managers.
An in-house development of workshop curriculum was set by QMS Engineers in accordance with needs and time constraints. The objective was for attendees to grasp the fact that effective leadership does not necessarily require great technical or intellectual capacity. These attributes might help, but they are not pivotal, as leadership is centrally concerned with people.
The workshop topics varied from communication skills, time management, change management, to the use of the types of human intelligence, in order to stress on the fact that many capabilities in life are a matter of acquiring skills and knowledge and then applying them in a reliable way, however good leadership demands emotional strengths and behavioral characteristics which can draw deeply on a leader's mental and spiritual reserves.
This day witnessed a great interaction from attendees, who had the opportunity of reflecting on their past behaviors and the way to improve them in order to awaken the leaders in them.
To conclude with, the workshop had a clear message to relay through differentiating between leadership and management, where management is mostly about processes, while leadership is mostly about behavior, and therefore about emotional intelligence…
