Simona El Khoury, faculty member and lecturer at the Notre Dame University – Louaize, facilitated a workshop on body language skills for her last year students preparing to apply for job interviews.
Body language is a range of nonverbal signals that you can use to communicate your feelings and intentions. These include your posture, facial expressions, and hand gestures. Your ability to understand and interpret other people's body language can help you to pick up on unspoken issues or feelings.
A job interview is an interview consisting of a conversation between a job applicant and a representative of an employer which is conducted to assess whether the applicant should be hired.
Interviews are one of the most popularly used tools for employee selection. Interviews vary in the extent to which the questions are structured, from a totally unstructured and free-wheeling conversation to a structured interview in which an applicant is asked a predetermined list of questions in a specified order.
QMS Engineers conducted the workshop that included in its major part practice role plays where body language and how to manage it as well as the ability to read nonverbal cues in interviewers were highlighted.
It provided necessary practices and tips for job seekers before having a real-world job interview, creating an opportunity for them to get feedback about their body language skills.
The workshop stimulated attendees’ learning of how to develop appropriate strategies by refining their body language skills and reducing stress.
The attendees’ feedback showed a great deal of how much this learning experience was important and useful for them. Some of the comments read as follows:
“It was an enjoyable experience from which I’ve learned a lot on body language secrets.”
“This course gave a lot of context to different body language tips. Invaluable. Also, I am leaving feeling empowered and ready to try these methods. Very excited about it!
QMS Engineers’ Managing Director who personally provided this workshop, since she believes in empowering youth through learning how to self-manage in potentially stressful situations, thanked Mrs. Simona for her trust and for this unique opportunity to be invited as a guest speaker at NDU! She also wished job seekers all the best in their job hunt and hoped that they will put into practice skills gained from this workshop.
